Black-owned beauty brands worth checking out

As I wrote in my latest post ‘5 Black-Owned Fashion Brands to Support‘, it’s really important to purchase from Black-owned brands. Reasons are simple – Black founders have the least chance to get investors interested due racism in business world. Also, what I didn’t include in my previous post is the fact that between February and April 2020 around 40% of Black-owned businesses and 33% Latino-own businesses closed down due pandemic. Almost half of Black owned businesses have had to close! That’s devastating!

Here are an amazing Black-owned beauty brands:

Pattern by Tracee Ellis Ross

Focused on empowering and encouraging natural curls, Tracee Ellis Ross created an amazing hair care brand, focusing on individuality, nature power and beautiful, untamed locks. Even if you’re not a proud owner of curly hair, but wavy or straight, you can find products for yourself, like jojoba oil hair serum, or amazing tools.

UOMA beauty

Founded by Nigerian born, LA & London based former beauty executive Sharon Chuter, UOMA beauty stands for originality, expression, fun and most important – inclusivity and diversity! Unlike many other brands, UOMA acknowledges that inclusivity in the beauty industry doesn’t end up on 40 shade foundation brand. Black women also use highlighters, setting powders, blushes, contour and eye shadows (shocking, huh…?), and UOMA makes sure there’s choice for all skin shades!

Pat McGrath Labs

When you’re announced ‘the most influential make-up artist in the world’ by Anna Wintour, it means A LOT! Pat McGrath is a pure talent working on photoshoot sets, editorials and runway shows of the biggest names in the industry. She stands behind developing beauty lines for Giorgio Armani and Gucci. And her own beauty brand, Pat McGrath Labs, gets recognition for the highest quality.

KLUR

Based on her knowledge of ingredients and formulas as a beauty anesthetician, Lesley Thornton created 100% cruelty free, vegan and gender-neutral luxurious skin care, which values ethical, clean and inclusive beauty. Brilliant Light Vitamin C Serum and Skin Soil are already on my list to buy!

Pear Nova

Whenever you’re a fan of gels or lacquers, Pear Nova gets you covered baby! Inspired by latest runway trends, Rachel James, founded a breath-taking nail polish brand, which values quality and costumers health – it’s vegan, cruelty-free and 5 free (free of 5 chemicals formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene, and dibutyl Phthalate DBP which are nasty for you!).

Shani Darden Skin Care

Hollywood’s celebrity facialist, Shani Darden, is responsible for glowing, clean complexions of Emily Ratajkowski, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Jessica Alba and many, many more. Known for her impressive knowledge, which she shares openly on Instagram, she created a luxurious skin care brand that will definitely bring your at-home facials on the highest levels!
